"Elly Simmons'
mixed media paintings might easily be dubbed world art. Combining
folk art's lack of pretense with a technical sophistication, this
Lagunitas artist channels far-flung cross cultural currents into
a spiral of archetypal imagery that's playful, pleasure-loving, and
political" -Harry Roche, San Francisco Bay Guardian
Simmons paints with
a variety of materials. Gouache, casein, pastel, and oil are
her prime media. She has also used collage with painting to create
a series of works exploring her family history and Jewish roots
as well as paintings addressing intolerance and immigrant rights.
Many new pieces are being created that reflect current issues
in the artists life and in the world community.
